Post Race Notes

24 hours after the race, the after effects are very noticeable.
Although exacebated by a work shift after the event together with a early morning shift meaning very little quality sleep, the main area are the quadriceps and the glutes although the latter are recovering quickly.

I have a slight muzzy feel in the head but this is due to disturbed sleep with a less than appropriate work shift pattern.

Cortisol

Cortisol is a necessary hormone produced in our adrenals that regulates and mobilises energy.  Our bodies produce cortisol in response to physical, mental or emotional stress. If we have too much of it, it can produce a number of negative side effects, such as raising our blood sugar and lowering our immunity. There is also a link between high cortisol levels and storage of body fat, particularly abdominal body fat.

Thats the definition ....
To combat it, plenty of fluids, stuff that is deemed to be antioxidant, anti inflammatory.
