How to survive a 4 hour turbo training ride

Your first priority is to ensure you are under no time pressure to complete a ride that will take 4 hours out of your day.
Only attempt to ride when you have nothing else scheduled so you are completely at ease with just riding a bike.
An activity that will have most other non aficionados just scratching their heads and wondering about your mental state!

Equipment:
1 bike in good order
1 turbo
4 sets of tee shirts/change of shorts
3 bananas
4 drinks bottles
3 gels
1 large screen tv
1 laptop with hdmi cable
1 long good quality cycling video (2012 Giro with sublime commentary from Harmon and Kelly)
1 power meter or use of virtual power software such as Trainer Road
1 large fan
3 towels
No spectators

Allow yourself to get off the bike from time to time.
Changing tee shirt and after a while your shorts will make for a more comfortable ride. You will get soaked in perspiration. Drier kit feels much nicer.

After 3 hours , I took time out more a couple of espressos.
Do not shirk away from the truth, this ride is very very hard even though the intensity is low, the cumulative effect of being on the turbo will get to you. This is where your special mental makeup as a racing cyclist will enable you to carry on.

After the ride, you can stretch if you want but more importantly is your nutrition.
Have a protein drink and get some carbohydrates in you!
You have just stripped your body of glycogen and you need the protein to help repair and keep muscles intact.
