However the main issue is with the front LH shifter not returning after engaging to go onto the big ring.

The shifting works but is actually very stiff and it is not the internal routing that is causing the issue.
I will remove bars and tape,slide the shifter off and give it a thorough clean in diesel as I reckon the cold, wet and muddy rides have taken their toll on the mechanics of the shifter.
