TLI National Criterium Championships 2013 - Marsh Tracks, Rhyl

Weather forecast was very bad, however despite the cold strong north westerly wind, the race was dry.
Wrapped up with arm warmers and 3 layers but in shorts, the race went off from the 'gun'. It split with a 3 man break very early with the usual TLI strongmen suspects. The bunch behind was being driven hard for the next 25 minutes with constant surges. Quite a number were being shelled out the back and I found it on 3 occasions hard work to get back in touch and not lose a wheel. I did lose 20 metres at one stage and very nearly 'lost' it but somehow I kept the leg pressure up and the bunch came back to me. The heart rate was booming at that point!
So this C and D race was looking to settle into a rhythm. I did one of front turns but made sure it was at less than full effort. At one stage I was just seeing yellow numbers (C's) and thought heck what's up? I need not have worried the white numbers (D's) were all behind me.
Last lap, I kept towards the front end, but I missed a yellow number wheel to stick on as the final bend emerged into the finishing straight. A sixth place at worst for my category!
